Meet the friendly staff at Chetwynd Veterinary Clinic!
Dr. Mark Bergen grew up in a small town in Manitoba. He developed a love of animals from a young age, especially horses and dogs. He had an uncle who had draft horses that certainly helped foster his interest in horses. Growing up he played basketball, and enjoyed spending time outdoors and fishing at his family's cabin.
Before starting college he canoed from The Pas, Manitoba to New Orleans in a 4 month journey. He also did some backpacking across Canada in his younger days.
He put himself through university by tree-planting in northern BC during the summers, and before becoming a veterinarian he also had jobs riding a community pasture in Saskatchewan, working on a grain farm, working at a cattle feedlot, and working for a horse trainer starting colts.
Mark studied at Medicine Hat College and the University of Saskatchewan prior to obtaining his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
He enjoys the variety and challenges of mixed practise - everything from surgery to dealing with itchy dogs to equine dental work to pregnancy testing cows and everything in between.
When not working, Mark enjoys riding and training horses and spending time with his family. He has volunteered with the board managing the local riding arena and volunteers coaching minor hockey.
He is married to Dr. Dana Bergen and they have two children.
Dana grew up on a cattle farm west of Dawson Creek, B.C. During her youth she was actively involved in 4-H for 10 years, enjoyed showing cattle and knew she wanted to be a vet at a young age.
Dana went to the University of Alberta for the required 2 years of pre-veterinary medicine and then went to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine for 4 years to get her DVM.
Dana and Mark met at the WCVM and happened to start their first job in Swift Current, SK at the Animal Health Centre. It was here where the new grads got to know each other during some intense working hours!
Mark and Dana decided to move west prior to starting a family and this is what brought them to Chetwynd. They now also have a daughter, Casey and son, Carter.
Dana enjoys running, hiking, travelling, and spending time with family. Dana coaches minor hockey and is on the Chetwynd library board. Dana has two brothers in the area and many relations.
When it comes to veterinary medicine Dana enjoys surgery and cattle work if she could pick her favorites.
She feels fortunate to be able to spend her days helping animals, which was the reason she chose this career many years ago. She believes she is lucky to work with such great staff and human clientele on a daily basis and is grateful to have made so many friends (two and four-legged) in Chetwynd.
Lori is the longest working employee at the CVH. She was employed by the previous owners so has been at the practice for more than 16 years!
Lori grew up in Prince George. She went to college in Forestry and then worked for CN rail for 20 years before she decided her real passion was working with animals. She decided to take the Animal Health Technician program in Fairview, AB. At this point in her life she was married and raising two young children.
Lori enjoys the outdoors. Lori and her husband Everett like to fish, hunt, canoe, look for antler sheds and spend time together in the bush. Lori also enjoys reading, travelling, hiking and running.
Lori enjoys working with all animals and currently has some chickens, horses, cats and a dog. She has cared for rabbits, guinea pigs, goats and various birds at different times as well.
Lori is very proficient at handling various animals. She enjoys learning about some of the species that we see less frequently such as rabbits and chickens so that we can provide the best service to all!
Coralyn is quiet and calm and that is why the animals love her as much as she loves them. You may not see her often as she is often in the back where the action happens. Coralyn loves to spend time with her family and her dog Cece.
Coralyn was born and raised in Chetwynd and we are glad she has decided to continue to call it home.
LIsa's smiling face will likely be the first one you see when you arrive at the CVH. Lisa will help get you and your pet checked in and checked out at the end of your visit. She also will often be the person you talk to on the phone when you call to book an appointment or have any questions.
Lisa enjoys spending time with her son Lane and her mini schnauzer, Dave. She also enjoys horseback riding, gardening, and fishing.
Lisa has worked as a safety person, ranch hand and barber in her previous positions and brings a lot of unique experiences to our office!
Jenn is a southern BC girl who did her work experience with us and liked our community so much that lucky for us, she decided to stay up North! Jenn is always busy in the back with patients but you may hear her occasionally on the phone or see her up front.
Jenn is a personal trainer and has trained and competed in fitness competitions. She has also competed in equestrian vaulting. She is one tough cookie!
Jenn is Mom to 2 beautiful girls, Ava and Charlotte, and also to a very energetic English Staffordshire, Onyx.
Rylee grew up and still lives on a large cattle ranch near Chetwynd. She is very handy when it comes to horses and cattle (and small animals too!) She enjoys riding and is a very competitive barrel racer. Rylee likes spending time with her lovable Old English Bulldog, Tobi.
Kelsey was born in BC and recently moved back from Alberta and says it feels like home!
She currently works one day a week at the CVH as a receptionist. She has a caring positive vibe and if you happen to have her answer the phone she also is very knowledgeable as a trained veterinary assistant.
Kelsey enjoys hiking, skiing, kayaking and spending time with her 3 horses, dog and boyfriend. Kelsey has recently enjoyed assisting with the local caribou capture and recovery program.
Kelsey would one day like to manage a successful cattle ranch and get her veterinary technician certification.
