Staff

Meet the friendly staff at Chetwynd Veterinary Clinic!

  • Dr.
    Mark Bergen
    Veterinarian/Owner

Dr. Mark Bergen grew up in a small town in Manitoba.  He developed a love of animals from a young age, especially horses and dogs.  He had an uncle who had draft horses that certainly helped foster his interest in horses.   Growing up he played basketball, and enjoyed spending time outdoors and fishing at his family's cabin.

Before starting college he canoed from The Pas, Manitoba to New Orleans in a 4 month journey. He also did some backpacking across Canada in his younger days.

He put himself through university by tree-planting in northern BC during the summers, and before becoming a veterinarian he also had jobs riding a community pasture in Saskatchewan, working on a grain farm, working at a cattle feedlot, and working for a horse trainer starting colts.

Mark studied at Medicine Hat College and the University of Saskatchewan prior to obtaining his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Saskatchewan.

He enjoys the variety and challenges of mixed practise  - everything from surgery to dealing with itchy dogs to equine dental work to pregnancy testing cows and everything in between.

When not working, Mark enjoys riding and training horses and spending time with his family.  He has volunteered with the board managing the local riding arena and volunteers coaching minor hockey.

He is married to Dr. Dana Bergen and they have two children.

  • Dr.
    Dana Bergen
    Veterinarian/Owner

Dana grew up on a cattle farm west of Dawson Creek, B.C. During her youth she was actively involved in 4-H for 10 years, enjoyed showing cattle and knew she wanted to be a vet at a young age.

Dana went to the University of Alberta for the required 2 years of pre-veterinary medicine and then went to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine for 4 years to get her DVM.

Dana and Mark met at the WCVM and happened to start their first job in Swift Current, SK at the Animal Health Centre. It was here where the new grads got to know each other during some intense working hours!

Mark and Dana decided to move west prior to starting a family and this is what brought them to Chetwynd. They now also have a daughter, Casey and son, Carter.

Dana enjoys running, hiking, travelling, and spending time with family. Dana coaches minor hockey and is on the Chetwynd library board. Dana has two brothers in the area and many relations.

When it comes to veterinary medicine Dana enjoys surgery and cattle work if she could pick her favorites.

She feels fortunate to be able to spend her days helping animals, which was the reason she chose this career many years ago. She believes she is lucky to work with such great staff and human clientele on a daily basis and is grateful to have made so many friends (two and four-legged) in Chetwynd.

Lori enjoys the outdoors. Lori and her husband Everett like to fish, hunt, canoe, look for antler sheds. Lori also enjoys reading, travelling, hiking and running.
